May 31, 2003, partial eclipse of the Sun seen from Höllviken, Sweden.

You had to be an early bird to catch May's solar eclipse from Sweden. I set my alarm to 4.40 AM and went out to get a glimpse of the eclipsed Sun at sunrise. At first it was hidden by the many pine trees around my house, but at about maximum eclipse it showed up and I got some pictures of it while it rose further through some light clouds. (Animation)

I sent the pictures on to a local newspaper and got them published the same morning.

Isn't the digital world amazing?

All pictures are taken with a Canon G3 digital camera equipped with a solar filter. No telescope was used, just the standard zoom lens(!) and the camera wasn't even on a tripod. Processed in Photoshop.
